Below you will find a list of links for both parents and students. These are links I have used in the classroom with students, recommended to parents as resources, or have used myself as a resource. Click on the icon to be taken directly to the website.
Links for StudentsStarfall is a wonderful website that has both literacy and math games. Students can read short stories, while practicing different reading skills like word families. Your teacher may have a subscription to access more features!
ABCYa is another site that has practice games for both math a literacy, but is organized by grade level, from Pre-K to 5th grade. The math games are what I utilize most in the classroom as they are aligned closely to what we teach in kindergarten.
Raz-kids, or some may know the site as Learning A-Z, is strictly for reading. Students are able to log-in under their teachers name, read books at their reading levels, record themselves read, take mini quizzes to test for comprehension, and so much more! Raz-kids also provides parents a report of their child's progress.
Scholastic Let's Find Out is a weekly print and digital magazines for students to learn from. They are a non-fiction texts that fit with monthly events (i.e., wants and needs topic around the holiday season). Each digital issue has a video, a game, and a printable to go with them.
Storyline Online is a website where students can listen to stories being read by well-known actors. While reading, the stories come to life in a movie-like way. These videos can be accessed anywhere at anytime, helping to inspire a love of reading in students.

Links for ParentsThe Common Core State Standards are the standards that Michigan (and many other states) have adopted for math and literacy. The website provides the standards for each grade level as well as many resources to go along with the standards.
The Michigan Department of Education website provides a variety of resources for Michigan families. These resources range from knowing state plans for education to food and nutrition programs.
Book Wizard (through Scholastic) allows you to search for leveled books to fit your child's development reading level. Whatever form of reading assessment your child's classroom uses, Book Wizard allows you to change searches to find books at the appropriate level for your child.
Reading Rockets is an online resource for adults to refer to for information on how young children learn to read and why some may struggle reading. The site offers blogs, videos, and articles to help address the literacy topic you wish to learn more about.
NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) is an organization that promotes high quality learning for children from birth to age eight. Aside from the membership that you can obtain on the website, online without the membership, you have access to published early childhood articles and information about professional developments and events.
